Happy Lunar New Year!
2025 is the year of the snake. This holiday begins on Wednesday January 29 this year and is a holiday that changes from year to year. What animal are you most like? Do you know what animal it was when you were born? This time of year is when many countries including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Vietnam, and Korea begin spring festivals that celebrate the new year.

February is Black History Month.
Every February it is important to take some time to consider the experiences and history of Black Canadians and celebrate their achievements.

On January 20th, which is also Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we at the Learning Commons set up Februarys display pictured below. This year's display features quotes from Willie O’Ree, a Canadian Hockey player, and Martin Luther King Jr.
The new posters have an image of, and information about Willie O’Ree, the first black hockey player to play in an NHL game. If you want to know more about this iconic Canadian figure, come up to the Learning Commons to take a look, or check out this Canadian Encyclopedia article.
